Softball Closes Fall Slate With Perfect Record


STARKVILLE – Mississippi State closed the fall softball season with an 8-0 record after picking up wins against Middle Tennessee and Pearl River CC on Saturday evening.
 
The Bulldogs used a five-run third inning to lift State to a 9-2 victory against the Blue Raiders. Sierra Sacco, Matalasi Faapito and Ella Wesolowski homered in the game. Wesolowski just missed a second homer, doubling off the top of the center field wall. She was named the team’s offensive player of the game after finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
 
Sacco was defensive player of the game, recording two putouts and an assist in center field. She made a diving catch in the gap and doubled off a runner at third in the fifth inning. Sacco also drew three walks and stole a base.
 
Against Pearl River, Sacco continued her successful weekend. The junior transfer homered and drew a walk. She stole three bases and was the team’s offensive player of the game. Jessie Blaine was the defensive player of the game in a 4-1 victory, recording 14 putouts and an assist.
 
In the circle, Delainey Everett struck out 11 over 4.0 innings, and Josey Marron struck out two in a perfect seventh inning to record a save.
 
Blaine and Sacco put together an impressive final weekend of fall play. Including Friday night, Blaine was 4-for-6 with two homers and six RBIs. Sacco drew seven walks and stole six bases. Aquana Brownlee drove in five runs with a triple and a grand slam over the weekend.
 
The Bulldogs have one final week of fall practice, which will conclude with the program’s annual Fall World Series on Friday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. CT. Team Madi will face Team Paige in an intrasquad exhibition that is open to fans.
