Behind the Shield | Mallory Sluder

Hi Illini Family!!!!

My name is Mallory Sluder, I am a freshman right-handed pitcher from Greensboro, Alabama. I am majoring in Sports Management and intend to pursue a career in coaching after I graduate.

Looking back on the fall season, we had a lot of key moments that helped us learn more about the game. We had the alumni weekend which gave us time to talk to some of the amazing athletes that came through. We learned to compete and to take every pitch as an opportunity and not a threat.

We are now in eight-hour weeks, which is giving us players a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches to work on things we struggled with in the fall games. We had a remarkable fall season with an 8-0 record to start the year right. We are working hard on the field and off the field to make sure we can perform to the best of our ability when it comes to the spring season. We are really focusing on the small things right now and keeping everything simple.

I hope to see everyone come out and support us this spring!

I-L-L!!
