GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Baseball America unveiled its Fantasy Baseball Dynasty Rankings for 2024 on Tuesday, with Gator greats Wyatt Langford and Pete Alonso each falling inside the top 50.
Leading the way at No. 18 overall, Langford profiles as BA’s second-ranked prospect behind Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero. Outside of Langford and Caminero, every player in the top 30 is an active Major League Baseball player. Meanwhile, Alonso was ranked at No. 26 overall and fifth among MLB first basemen.
Langford capped of a prestigious Gators career in 2023 that saw him become the second-highest UF player to be taken in the MLB Draft, going fourth overall to the Texas Rangers. In his first pro campaign, the Trenton, Fla. native advanced from Rookie ball all the way to Triple-A, hitting a combined .360/.480/.677 while drawing more walks (36) than strikeouts (34).
As a Gator, Langford set the program’s career slugging percentage record at .746 and finished inside the top-ten all-time at Florida in the following categories: fielding percentage (T-second), batting average (fifth), home runs (T-sixth) and on-base percentage (seventh). As one of three players in program history with consecutive 20-homer campaigns (2022-23), Langford concluded his career with a .363/.471/.746 batting line, 47 home runs, 37 doubles, 156 runs scored, 120 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
Since breaking in as National League Rookie of the Year in 2019, Alonso has established himself as one of the premier power threats in the game. As the only New York Met to ever eclipse the 35-homer threshold four times, Alonso is a career .251/.342/.528 hitter with 192 home runs and 498 RBI in just five big-league seasons.
Donning the Orange & Blue from 2014-16, the Tampa, Fla. native appeared in 101 games including 99 starts as the Gators made consecutive trips to the NCAA College World series his sophomore and junior seasons. All told, Alonso slashed .281/.366/.427 across 551 at bats while totaling 23 homers, 34 doubles, 124 RBI and 102 runs. Prior to being selected by the Mets with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Alonso was named a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist and First Team All-American.
