GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gators baseball standouts Blake Purnell and Nick Ficarrotta are set to receive their undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida as the Fall 2023 semester draws to a close.
 

Primed for a fourth year in Orange & Blue, Purnell (UF 2021-present) completed his degree in Social & Behavioral Sciences. Moving forward, he plans to study for the LSAT and apply to law school while he continues to pursue a professional baseball career.
 

Ficarrotta (UF 2020-23) recently hung up the spikes after helping Florida to a 2023 SEC Championship and College World Series Runner-Up finish. His UF degree comes in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology, with the goal of pursuing a career in physical therapy.
 
Purnell and Ficarrotta represent the 87th and 88th Gators to graduate under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan since 2008.
 
Gators Grad Notes:

  • Purnell was named a 2022 Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball after pitching to a 2.86 ERA and four saves across a team-high 36 appearances.
  • A native of Boynton Beach, Fla., Purnell is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member (2022-23).
  • In addition to capturing a 2023 SEC title and CWS appearance, Ficarrotta holds status as a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient (2020 First-Year, 2021-23).
  • Ficarrotta concluded his UF career with a 5-0 record, 4.28 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 103 innings spanning 51 relief appearances.
