Conference power rankings two weeks into 2024 season

The college baseball season is underway and teams are already beginning to find their identities. When it comes to identifying the contenders in the SEC, you almost always have your usual suspects — Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, LSU, and Texas A&M.

Other programs that have begun to find their identities early on in the season are Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Then, you have other programs like Missouri, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State that have each struggled to find their footing this season.

Nonetheless, the SEC is unpredictable and consistently changing. Therefore, it is way too early to pencil teams in or out of any kind of postseason play.

Roll Tide Wire provides its first SEC baseball power rankings of the 2024 season.

Missouri is working to establish an identity under first-year head coach Kerrick Jackson. Through two weeks of non-conference play, the Tigers have struggled to do so. Missouri finds themselves at 4-3 through the first seven games. On the bright side, the Tigers have not played a single game at home this far. Missouri has played the first seven games of the season on the West Coast. It will be interesting to see how Missouri comes along this season under the direction of Jackson. It is too early to get a true gauge on the Tigers.

After one of the most disappointing seasons in program history, the Rebels looked to turn things around this season. While that has occurred to an extent, it also has not. Mike Bianco’s squad has struggled through the first eight games of the season. The good news for Bianco and the Rebels is that there is plenty of time to get back on the right track. Ole Miss will need to do so after losing in half of their games thus far this season.

Another team that was striving to make a statement this season was Mississippi State. The Bulldogs struggled significantly last season which is unusual. The same can be said about the team’s start the 2024 season. Chris Lemonis’ squad has not met expectations. However, a hard-fought series win over a tough, Georgia Southern squad could be a promising sign of what is to come in Starkville.
