Oklahoma solidifies top spot, Georgia cracks top three as LSU falls

Oklahoma soldifies top spot, Georgia cracks top three as LSU falls

Here are my Week 7 college softball Power 10 rankings. There are lots of changes this week.

1. Oklahoma | LW: 1

There’s no change at the top with No. 1. Oklahoma now 31-1 after sweeping Baylor last weekend. After a few weeks of arguing who should be up top, there is now no question that it’s OU.

2. Texas | LW: 3

Texas moves back into the two spot with LSU plummeting. After its sole loss to LSU last week, Texas swept BYU, run-ruled Florida State and swept UCF. Reese Atwood continued her tear at the plate last week, and now has over 50 RBIs on the year.

3. Georgia | LW: 6

No. 3 was a tough choice between a mix of Stanford, Georgia and Duke, all sitting around the same spot. I ended up giving it to the Dawgs, who had an impressive sweep over a strong Ole Miss team on the road.

4. Stanford | LW: 5

Stanford comes at No. 4. The Cardinal have a close head-to-head over Georgia, but more losses, making it tough to order. But, the Cardinal swept Utah last weekend to move to 25-5.

5. Duke | LW: 4

Duke follows at No. 5, only below because they dropped a game of the series against Louisville last weekend. The Blue Devils have Virginia Tech next weekend, which should be a good one.

6. Tennessee | LW: 8

I have Tennessee next after winning two over South Carolina — they play the third tonight. Payton Gottshal had a complete game shutout victory on Sunday.

7. Washington | LW: 9

I flipped the order of Washington and Oklahoma State with the Huskies up at 7. Washington won its series over UCLA, and the Huskies are a tough ranked team that is improving as we get further into the season.

8. Oklahoma State | LW: 7

Oklahoma State lost a mid-week game to Tulsa and then dropped one game of the series to BYU, so I gave Washington the edge and moved the Cowgirls down a spot.

9. Florida | LW: 10

Florida moves up to No. 9. The Gators had another impressive weekend, this time with a sweep over Kentucky. Skylar Wallace and Jocelyn Erickson had 3 RBI a piece on Sunday in a 7-1 win for the sweep.

10. LSU | LW: 2

Finally at No. 10, I dropped LSU after losing back-to-back series in SEC play. First, they lost two to Ole Miss last weekend, then they lost the series to Missouri this past weekend. They are still in the top 10 for me now though, but I couldn’t put them above any of the other teams that all won their series last weekend.
