DURHAM – Fifth-ranked Duke softball is set to host No. 15 Virginia Tech for a three-game conference series at Duke Softball Stadium beginning Thursday. The opening game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Blue Devils (26-3, 7-2 ACC) are coming off their seventh straight conference series win, after collecting a 5-3 victory over Louisville on Sunday to clinch the weekend series. Senior Jala Wright and graduate student Dani Drogemuller shared the circle during the rubber match. Wright earned the win, after surrendering just one hit with seven strikeouts in her 4.1 innings of work. Offensively, redshirt-sophomore Jada Baker and sophomore Aminah Vega led the charge as each recorded two hits in the game. The duo also combined to drive in four of Duke’s five runs.
The Hokies bring a 25-5-1 record into the matchup, including a 9-0 mark in ACC play. Virginia Tech split a pair of road games at No. 13 Alabama over the weekend. The Hokies fell to the Crimson Tide, 1-0, on Friday before rebounding with an 8-3 victory in eight innings on Saturday. Junior Emma Lemley earned the win inside the circle, tossing 2.0 innings and allowing two runs off two hits with three strikeouts. Virginia Tech used a five-run eighth inning to push past Alabama, highlighted by a two-run home run from Michelle Chatfield and two-RBI single from Cameron Fagan.
