Badgers drop second game of Nebraska series

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team (12-19, 1-4) lost their second game of their Nebraska series, falling 7-3 for their second loss against the Huskers. Wisconsin once again out hit Nebraska 12-9, but were unable to drive runners in. The final game of the series will occur tomorrow at 1 PM.

How It Happened:

Wisconsin played catch up against Nebraska all game, twice coming back from a Cornhusker lead.

 

Nebraska scored quickly off starter Tessa Magnanimo in the first inning, collecting  hits with an RBI double and single accounting for two runs in the inning. Wisconsin bounced back in the bottom of the second, when a lead-off double from Hilary Blomberg that turned into a Ellie Hubbard RBI fielder’s choice. Peyton Bannon then hit her first triple of the season to tie the game up at two apiece.

 

The teams then traded a run in the third, with Nebraska hitting an RBI double, and Fiona Girardot leading off with a triple that turned into a sacrifice fly.

 

Through four innings, Magnanimo kept the ball down, inducing six ground balls that resulted in two double plays for Wisconsin. But Nebraska finally elevated the ball in the top of the fifth, hitting back-to-back home runs for the second straight came, and putting across four runners. The game would remain 7-3 through the last out.
