Miami Drops Series Finale to No. 3 Clemson – University of Miami Athletics

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — After two tightly-contested games, the Miami Hurricanes couldn’t contain the third-ranked Clemson Tigers in the series finale.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first and never looked back, as Clemson cruised to a 7-0 win Saturday afternoon at Mark Light Field.

Clemson freshman right-hander Aidan Knaak (2-0) shined for the Tigers (24-3, 7-2 ACC), tossing a career-long seven shutout innings. Knaak and the Clemson bullpen blanked the Hurricanes (15-12, 6-6 ACC) for the first time this year, surrendering just two hits.

The Fort Myers, Fla., native retired 20 of the 24 batters he faced, totaling a career-best 10 strikeouts along the way.

Offensively, highly-touted sophomore Cam Cannarella notched a multi-hit performance and drove in three runs for the Tigers. Meanwhile, veteran first baseman Jacob Hinderleider plated a pair of tallies on as many hits.

Junior left-hander Herick Hernandez (2-3) picked up the loss. Hernandez allowed five earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.

With the victory, Clemson clinched its first series win over the Hurricanes since 2012, as Miami had won six straight series heading into the weekend.

Up next, the Hurricanes begin a four-game road swing against Florida Atlantic Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
