North Carolina's Harber, Miami's Ziehl Earn ACC Baseball Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior infielder Parks Harber was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Miami junior right-handed pitcher Gage Ziehl earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week honor.

The ACC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a 17-member voting panel composed of media members and announced on Mondays during the regular season.

Harber hit .471 (8-for-17) throughout North Carolina’s four games last week. The Tar Heel first baseman tallied eight hits throughout the week, including six home runs. In the midweek contest versus North Carolina A&T, Harber hit a pair of home runs to lead the Tar Heels to a 10-5 victory. The Atlanta, Georgia, native then launched three home runs on Saturday versus No. 12 Wake Forest, becoming the first Tar Heel to hit three home runs in a game since 2002. Harber helped North Carolina to a three-game sweep of the Demon Deacons. During the week, the senior also set the North Carolina record for most consecutive games with a home run, doing so in five straight contests.

Harber becomes the second Tar Heel to win an ACC weekly award this season after Vance Honeycutt earned ACC Baseball Player of the Week honors on February 26. Harber was also named the National Player of the Week by both D1Baseball and Perfect Game on Monday.

Against No. 3 Clemson on Thursday night, Ziehl spun a complete game, allowing just two runs, only one of which was earned, along the way. Ziehl also struck out a career-high 15 hitters, marking a season-high among ACC pitchers and becoming the first pitcher in the conference to strikeout 15 or more since North Carolina’s Austin Love punched out 15 versus Georgia Tech on May 20, 2021. The strikeout total for Ziehl marked the most by a Hurricane pitcher since Bryan Radziewski fanned 16 against Virginia Tech on March 23, 2013. A native of Macedon, New York, Ziehl had pinpoint control in the win, firing 88 of his 118 pitches (74.6 percent) for strikes.

Ziehl becomes the second Hurricane to win a weekly award this season, joining infielder Blake Cyr, who was named ACC Baseball Player of the Week on March 11.
