Vega Collects ACC Player of the Week Honors

DURHAM – Sophomore Aminah Vega earned ACC Player of the Week honors after leading No. 5 Duke to a conference series sweep over No. 15 Virginia Tech last weekend.

Vega was explosive at the plate during the three-game set, batting 7-for-10 with three home runs and nine RBI. She also scored five of Duke’s 25 runs on the weekend.

On Friday, Vega tallied the first multi-home run game of her career after blasting a pair of two-run home runs to help guide the Blue Devils to a 6-5 victory and clinch the series win. The DeBary, Fla., native was perfect on the night, finishing 4-for-4 with a single, double and two home runs, while driving in four of Duke’s six total runs.

During Saturday’s series finale, Vega sent a solo blast straight out of center field to lift Duke to a 5-2 victory and complete the sweep. The sophomore has now homered in three of her last four games, including two of the three games against Virginia Tech.

As a team, Duke outscored Virginia Tech, 25-12, to mark the program’s first series sweep over the Hokies.

The Blue Devils continue their seven-game homestand on Wednesday, welcoming Charlotte to Duke Softball Stadium for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
