Rutgers Welcomes Wisconsin This Weekend; Saturday’s Game To Air On BTN

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball is back home for more Big Ten action as the Scarlet Knights welcome Wisconsin for a three-game series at the RU Softball Complex beginning Friday.

The Scarlet Knights and Badgers open the series on Friday, April 5 at 3 p.m. Saturday’s game on April 6, the first-ever BTN broadcast from the Rutgers Softball Complex, is set for first pitch at noon.  The series wraps up on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m.

  • After a mid-week rainout, Rutgers softball is back on the field for its third Big Ten weekend welcoming the Wisconsin Badgers to the RU Softball Complex for a three-game series starting on Friday. On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights-Badger matchup will air live on BTN, the first national broadcast from the facility. On the call will be Kylen Mills and Boo de Oliveira.
  • RU opened Big Ten play two weeks ago with a series win over Ohio State at home. In their first conference road contests of the year last weekend at Purdue, the Scarlet Knights took the opening game 5-1 but dropped a 6-5 extra-innings contest and fell 5-3 in the finale in a doubleheader on Saturday.
  • On the stat sheet, senior Morgan Smith leads the Scarlet Knights at the plate hitting .422 (49-for-116) with 34 runs, six doubles, four triples, a league-second best 13 home runs and a league-leading 42 RBIs. In the circle, Smith is 8-7 with a 3.00 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 21 appearances and 98.0 innings of work. In the Big Ten opening series with Ohio State, she batted 556 (5-for-9) with three home runs, a double, a triple, six RBIs, six runs scored and 1.889 slugging along with a 1.45 ERA and five strikeouts en route to being selected a Louisville Slugger/Wilson Selected Top Performer. Last weekend she also moved into the top 10 in season RBIs after two home runs gave her 42 runs batted in on the year.
  • Kyleigh Sand, who is RU’s career batting average leader, is hitting .383 with a team-leading 38 runs and 10 stolen bases. Sand’s 38 runs are currently third among her conference peers. She has also collected eight doubles and three triples this season and leads the Big Ten with 24 walks.
