URBANA, Ill. – In the series opener at Eichelberger Field on Friday, the Illinois softball team was held scoreless by Purdue, 3-0.
With the loss, the Fighting Illini dropped to 15-23 this year with a 2-8 conference record. The Boilermakers improved to 19-18 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play.
Tori McQueen tossed a complete game and took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five.
How it happened
Both teams went scoreless through three, but Purdue tallied a pair in the top of the fourth.
After holding the Boilermakers scoreless in the fifth, the Orange and Blue loaded the bases with three singles. However, the Illini were unable to push a run across in the frame.
Purdue tacked on a run in the sixth to take the 3-0 lead. Down to their final three outs, the Fighting Illini got a runner on but did not score, ending the 3-0 defeat.
