(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) – Jared Walsh launched his first home run to help push the Charlotte Knights past the Gwinnett Stripers on Saturday by a score of 6-2 in game five of the six-game series from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The win was Charlotte’s second in the series. With the win, the Knights now have a chance to split the series with a win in Sunday’s finale.

Appearing in his sixth game of the season with the Knights, Walsh went 1-for-4 at the plate with his first home run of the season. The 30-year-old first baseman was signed by the Chicago White Sox and assigned to Charlotte on May 4. A 2021 American League All-Star while playing for the Los Angeles Angels, Walsh homered for the first time this season with the Knights on Saturday. In fact, the home run was his first since March 30, 2024 when he was a member of the Texas Rangers.

RHP Chad Kuhl started for the Knights and was sharp over four innings of work. Kuhl, who did not factor in the decision, allowed just two runs on four hits over four innings of work. RHP Aaron McGarity (3-0, 5.50), the first reliever to pitch in relief of Kuhl, earned the victory. McGarity tossed two shutout innings for his third win of the season.

The Charlotte bullpen was once again stellar on Saturday, holding the Stripers scoreless over the final five innings of the game. RHP Justin Anderson worked a perfect ninth inning to close the door for Charlotte’s second win of the series.

In all, the Knights managed seven hits in the game. Shortstop Colson Montgomery drove home a run on an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning, his 15th RBI of the season. Outfielder Mark Payton extended his hit streak to three consecutive games.

The two teams will conclude the six-game road series on Sunday afternoon from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on beginning at 1:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. from the home of the Stripers.
