Everyone knows paying on the road is hard, and it’s even harder to win a series on the road. Playing in the SEC makes those five times as hard. So, losses are to be expected in a conference full of talent, and the margin for error is extremely thin. Another big part of baseball is slumping, and that seems to be where Texas A&M (41-10, 16-10 SEC) is currently at during this part of the season.
The Aggies’ last two SEC series have not gone particularly well. First, they lost to LSU on the road, losing the first two games in the series. Then, this weekend, they dropped the first two games against Ole Miss. What made this series a little different is that in game two, the Rebels took it to the Aggies, and in most games, you can never really count A&M out. But on Saturday, they just didn’t look like they had it in them, losing 10-2.
That loss now puts the Aggies at 2-4 over their last six SEC contests, and they should expect to see a sizable drop in the ranking relative to where they are right now. While in the grand scheme of things for this team, the ranking is not as important because they will probably still host a regional, they have to get back on track to finish the season strong.
