Vanderbilt Baseball | Thompson Named Pitcher of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s JD Thompson is this week’s SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Thompson threw 6.0 shutout innings vs. No. 1 Tennessee in the Commodores’ 3-0 win Sunday at Hawkins Field. Thompson matched his career high with nine strikeouts and held the Volunteers to just two hits.

Thompson combined with Devin Futrell to shutout Tennessee, handing the Vols their first shutout of the season.

Vanderbilt has picked up seven weekly awards this season including four Pitcher of the Week awards.

March 4: Camden Kozeal, Freshman of the Week
March 11: Devin Futrell, Pitcher of the Week
March 18: Alan Espinal, Player of the Week
April 1: Bryce Cunningham, Pitcher of the Week
April 8: Jayden Davis, Co-Player of the Week
April 29: Bryce Cunningham, Pitcher of the Week
May 13: JD Thompson, Co-Pitcher of the Week

The Commodores wrap up the regular season at No. 4 Kentucky with a three-game series beginning Thursday in Lexington.
