Florida baseball’s Jac Caglianone star of Gators 2021 recruiting class

The 2021 class was signed well before the transfer portal took off in college baseball, so Sully added plenty of pieces he knew would stick around for a while.

Ty Evans (No. 121) and Michael Robertson (No. 139) made up two-thirds of Florida’s outfield this season, and both Brandon Neely (No. 137) and Fisher Jameson (No. 196) were crucial pieces out of the bullpen.

Neely has bounced between starter and reliever his whole career, but his high-energy style seems to work best out of the ‘pen. He has the extra level that elite closers need, and he’s capable of giving three on a day when the bulk of the staff is unavailable.

An unforgettable run in the NCAA Tournament is going to earn Neely some extra money. He’s a projected Day 2 pick who should come off the board between rounds six and 10.

Evans got playing time in 2023 but really broke out this season as Florida’s everyday right fielder. He figured out how to hit right-handers and ended the season with a career-high slash line of .316/.406/.580 with 13 home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Evans’ bat looks like that of a Day 2 selection, but his defense is suspect and there are some swing-and-miss concerns. Ending the season early with a broken wrist shouldn’t affect his draft stock, but Evans is in a position where returning to school could earn him more money (especially with NIL in play).

Jameson is in a similar spot, although he’s more likely to go on Day 3 than Day 2 of the draft. An ugly 2023 set expectations low coming into this year, but Jameson ended up pacing the program with a 3.99 ERA. Capitalizing on a bounceback year might be his best move.

Robertson doesn’t have many draft considerations, but the defense and speed make him a dangerous weapon in the college game. Unfortunately, he’s in the transfer portal and is unlikely to return with a replacement already on campus.
