Sunday night was a dream come true for Texas A&M players Braden Montgomery and Chris Cortez with both being drafted on day one of the 2024 MLB Draft. From a young age every athlete grows up with the hope of playing at the highest level, but few actually reach that peak.
When Montgomery transferred to A&M, it was already a given that he would be a first round pick with what he had accomplished at Stanford. His time in Aggieland was no different, as he quickly gelled with the team and became one of the top hitters in the SEC.
Cortez on the other hand was a wildcard just like his pitching from the 2023 season. You could see that he had the skill set to become a big-league pitcher, but his issues with control have given people pause on his draft stock. However, his 2024 season was a major improvement where we saw him take command of his fastball and slider.
