Ohio State adds SEC transfer INF, former top-100 prospect Luther Ellis

Ohio State baseball may have landed its biggest transfer on Friday afternoon.

Infielder, Luther “Lee” Ellis, committed to the Buckeyes after playing his freshman season at South Carolina. He played in 17 games this past year, starting six of them batting .273 with 8 runs and a steal.

Ellis was a highly ranked recruit coming out of high school, as Perfect Game named him as the No. 1 prospect in Maryland and the 85th overall player in the country as noted in his player page.

A cannon for an arm, Ellis was clocked at 96 miles-per-hour at a Perfect Game event, while his 6.41 60-yard dash is equally impressive.

There is no doubt that assistant Joey Holcomb had a part in this move by Ellis, as he had the same responsibilities with the Gamecocks. He should compete for a starting spot immediately.
