Yankees' Gerrit Cole set to start Sunday vs. Blue Jays after successful bullpen session

Gerrit Cole is back.

The ace right-hander will officially make his next scheduled start during Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays after successfully completing his second bullpen session.

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said Thursday afternoon that would be the case as long as everything went well, and Cole himself confirmed afterward that he was good to go.

The right-hander will end up missing just one start — Wednesday against the Phillies — after experiencing what the team called general body fatigue in between outings.

Cole told reporters that he simply wasn’t recovering well following his last outing against the Mets, but it was possible he’d be able to get right back out there for his next outing.

That has now been confirmed as the case.

The Yanks certainly need the reigning Cole locked and loaded down the stretch this season after they failed to add any starting pitching ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

The reigning Cy Young has been shaky since returning from an elbow injury and he’s coming off a rough Subway Series outing in which he allowed six runs on eight hits (three homers) across just 5.2 innings.
