DURHAM, N.C. – A program-high fifteen Blue Devils garnered Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) unveiled its honorees for the 2023-24 academic year.
Recent Duke graduates Claire Davidson, Francesca Frelick and Lillie Walker highlighted the Blue Devils’ selections after earning the acknowledgement for the fourth consecutive year. The trio joins Peyton St. George as the only players in program history to capture the award four times.
Jala Wright and Kelsey Zampa earned the honor for the third time in their careers, while Jada Baker, Dani Drogemuller, Sophie Garner-MacKinnon, Sarah Goddard, Kairi Rodriguez and Aminah Vega were each recognized for the second time.
Duke also had four first-time picks in Amiah Burgess, Cassidy Curd, Linh Le and Aleyah Terrell.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s membership categories. NCAA Division I led the way with 2,573 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2023-24. NCAA Division III followed with 2,285 and NCAA Division II with 1,510. NAIA and junior colleges came in with 873 and 808 student-athletes respectively.
