Tyler Gentry headlines Alabama baseball players impressing in MLB

Across major and minor league baseball, there are numerous former Alabama Crimson Tide players who are actively playing at the moment, scattered across the sports’ 30 different organizations.

A lengthy list, the majority of these names are currently playing in the minor leagues, while a few are also at the major league level. This group also includes numerous names who played at Alabama across the last couple of seasons, as well as a few players whose time in Tuscaloosa was not necessarily all that recent.

Gentry became the latest Alabama baseball player to reach the major leagues this past Sunday, as the former Crimson Tide outfielder was called-up by the Kansas City Royals. Prior to his call-up, the Royals No. 15 prospect had appeared in 105 games with the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers this season, slashing a combined .256/.346/.429 with 13 HR, 54 RBI, and five SB.

Ian Petrutz, Outfielder – St. Louis Cardinals

Taken in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB draft, Petrutz’s professional career is off to a phenomenal start with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Since the draft, the former Alabama outfielder has appeared in 19 games with the Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals, slashing .339/.500/.452 with 14 RBI and three SB.

Matt Foster, Right-Handed Pitcher – Chicago White Sox

Foster has had a solid month of August within the Chicago White Sox organization, which included one scoreless appearance with the major league club. Across his 9.2 IP this month, Foster owns a combined 2.79 ERA and a 9:1 K:BB ratio, with a vast majority of his time having come in Triple-A as a member of the Charlotte Knights.

Peyton Wilson, Outfielder/Second Baseman – Kansas City Royals

Wilson, a former second round from the 2021 MLB draft, has had a strong month of August with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Kansas City Royals organization, owning a .760 OPS with three HR and five RBI across 19 games….
