Rising sophomore ace Liam Peterson drew the start for the first six innings of play, blanking the Dolphins in the top half of the first. Jacksonville native Aidan King followed with a scoreless second, giving way for the Gators to open the evening’s scoring.

Blake Cyr led off the second with a single to left, later coming in to score on a line drive to right off the bat of Brody Donay. Landon Stripling then doubled to right to put a pair in scoring position, but JU starter Richard Long induced a strikeout and groundout to keep it to a 1-0 Florida lead.

Jake Clemente fired a clean frame in the third while southpaw Frank Menendez fanned three in the fourth to keep the shutout intact. Florida extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom half, as Evans tripled to right-center field and crossed home on a wild pitch.

Jacksonville broke through in the fifth to make it 2-1, plating its first run on an automatic double down the right-field line by Jonah Shields to plate Jackson Westmoreland. That marked the extent of the scoring for the Dolphins, as righty Luke McNeillie closed out the final 1 1/3 innings in scoreless fashion to collect the save.

King earned the win in his unofficial collegiate debut, tossing one no-hit inning with one walk and one strikeout. Peterson earned a no-decision after pitching one scoreless frame, allowing zero hits and one walk while picking up one strikeout.

Long was saddled with the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits across four innings. He fanned one batter.

Evans (1-for-3), Cyr (1-for-2), Donay (1-for-2) and Stripling (1-for-1) accounted for Florida’s four knocks.
