FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Utah softball team suffered a 12-3 defeat on Saturday against the LMU Lions at Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno, Calif.
Utah is now 4-4 on the season.
The Utes were the first team out of the blocks, loading the bases in the first inning on singles by Hailee White and Shelbi Ortiz and a walk to Shonty Passi. Hailey Deter then plated a pair with her team-high fourth double of the season, staking Utah to a 2-0 lead.
The Lions battled back to tie the score in the second, but Utah starter Shelbee Jones kept the Utes even in that inning by working out of a bases-loaded situation. Unfortunately for Utah, LMU’s offense came to life again in the sixth, scoring seven times to move in front and tacking on three more runs in the seventh.
Shonty Passi added to Utah’s total with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, but that would be the Utes’ final tally of the day.
Up Next
The Utes will be in action twice on Sunday, starting with an 12:30 p.m. PT (1:30 p.m. MT) meeting with UCSB, followed by a 3 p.m. matchup against Fresno State.
