PREVIEW

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois baseball heads west to play in the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Illini will take on Texas Tech, Washington and No. 15 Texas in this round robin showcase.

The Orange and Blue opened the 2025 home slate with a 19-8 win over Aurora on Tuesday. Greg LaChance, Jack Zebig and Kyle Schupmann all homered as the offense scored double-digit runs for the third time this season .

RHP Tyler Schmitt (1-0, 3.86) will get the ball in Friday’s opener vs. Texas Tech. RHP Ben Plumley (0-1, 3.37) is set to face Washington on Saturday and RHP Julius Sanchez (1-0, 2.25) is slated to start in Sunday’s finale vs. No. 15 Texas.

Illinois baseball heads to Las Vegas to compete in the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic at Las Vegas Ballpark.

The Illini enter the ballgame coming off of a midweek victory over Aurora, 19-8, in the 2025 home opener.

In its last weekend set, Illinois captured a series win at Texas State from Feb. 22-23, taking two of three games from the Bobcats in San Marcos, Texas.

Mike Ferrin and Mike Rooney will call the action all weekend on D1Baseball.com.
