Preston Prince started strong with a pair of scoreless innings. CCU was able to take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third. An infield single, passed ball, wild pitch and single to left field each push a run across to make it 4-1 and give Coastal Carolina control of the game.
Quinn Berglin took over to get the last out of the third and threw scoreless fourth and fifth innings.
Jordan Falco took the mound for the sixth and CCU scored an unearned run to make it 5-1 after six. After a scoreless seventh, the Chanticleers added an insurance run to push the score to 6-1, which held as the final score.
Rutgers is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Delaware for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Bainton Field.
