PULLMAN, Wash. (March 23, 2025) – Washington State dropped a 4-1 decision to Gonzaga at Bailey-Brayton Field Tuesday evening. A season-high 1,530 fans attended the game.
WSU received two hits from Ollie Obenour and freshman starter Nick Fazio worked three innings and allowed just one unearned run. The Cougars committed four errors, left nine runners on base, left the bases loaded in the second, left a runner on third bases to end the fifth and had a one-out bases loaded threat in the sixth end with a groundball double play.
Gonzaga took a 2-1 lead with an unearned run in the sixth and added two in the seventh.
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the second, WSU loaded the bases with one out but GU kept the Cougars off the board with a strikeout and groundout back to the pitcher. The Bulldogs put a runner on with a one-out single through the left side and moved around to third after a throwing error on a failed pick off attempt and the next batter brought the run home with a groundout to first.
Obenour put down a one-out bunt single to third base in the fifth and moved around to third but GU again kept WSU off the board with a flyout to right.
WSU loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but GU again ended the threat with a 4-6-3 ground ball double play to preserve the 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs took advantage of a WSU defensive miscue in the seventh to add two runs for a 4-1 advantage.
