UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State baseball team fell 13-3 against Delaware on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Ryan Weingartner’s leadoff homer, but the Blue Hens responded with four runs in the third and cruised to the victory.
Penn State dropped to 22-13 overall, while Delaware improved to 19-16 on the season.
The Nittany Lions hosted their fifth Dollar Dog Night of the season as 1,284 fans consumed 2,584 hot dogs. PSU fans have eaten 27,212 hot dogs on Dollar Dog Nights this year.
Skip Shenosky made the start on the bump for Penn State, pitching into the third. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out one. Mason Butash worked three innings, giving up one run on four hits. The sophomore tallied three strikeouts.
Harrison Lollin went two-thirds of an inning, giving up seven runs on five hits. Will Andrews threw 1.1 frames, allowing one run (unearned).
Jonah Richardson got the start for Delaware, working two innings. He gave up one run on one hit and two walks, while posting three strikeouts. Justin Needles worked two scoreless innings. Ryan McLaughlin went two innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Ben Moyzan threw one scoreless inning and struck out two.
Penn State tallied three runs on five hits. Weingartner blasted his eighth homer of the year and added a single. Nate Voss contributed an RBI double and scored a run, while Jesse Jaconski had a double and a run.
Delaware plated 13 runs on 15 hits. Aaron Graeber led the Blue Hens with four hits, including a double and a triple, three RBI and three runs. Evan Bouldin drove in two runs, while LT Cockrill had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Andrew Amato added two hits, including an RBI single, and scored twice.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to an early lead in the first. Leading off the inning, Weingartner launched a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right. The 412-foot blast gave Penn State a 1-0 advantage.
Delaware took the lead in the third. Graeber sent a single through the right side before Jackson Tyer worked a walk. Aiden Stewart lined a double to the gap in left-center to bring in Graeber. Bouldin dribbled a single through the middle to plate Tyer and Stewart. After a single by Amato, a double off the right-field wall by Cockrill brought home Bouldin. Delaware led 4-1.
