DALLAS, Texas – Notre Dame sophomore cacher Carson Tinney has been named as a semifinalist for the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Tinney is one of 67 total candidates on the semifinal listing, which was released on May 15. Additionally, he is one of just four catchers to be on the semifinal list.
As of May 15, Tinney boasted a .352 batting average, .503 on-base percentage, and .752 slugging percentage. The sophomore has 15 home runs, 13 doubles, 49 RBI, 47 runs scored, and 32 walks. Defensively, Tinney has thrown out 16 of the 39 runners (41.0 percent) of the runners attempting to steal in 2025. He was an ACC Player of the Week and Dick Howser National Co-Hitter of the Week earlier this season.
In its 38th year, the Dick Howser Trophy is given in memory of former Florida State All-America shortstop and major league player and manager Dick Howser. Howser died of brain cancer in 1987, and the prestigious award has been given to the top player in collegiate baseball since that same year.
Finalists for the award will be announced on Thursday, June 7. The winner will then be announced on Friday, June 13 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha in conjunction with the opening day of play at the Men’s College World Series.
