THE HURRICANES ARE SUPER ONCE AGAIN
For the 13th time in program history, and the first since 2016, the Miami Hurricanes are headed back to the NCAA Super Regionals after edging top-seeded Southern Miss, 5-4, in a thrilling winner-take-all contest Monday night at Pete Taylor Park.
Right-hander Will Smith (3-0) earned the win after tossing three innings of one-run ball in relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit. Starter Reese Lumpkin allowed one run across 3 1/3 innings, while Rob Evans and Brian Walters combined to close the door.
The Canes caught fire in the Hattiesburg Regional, going 3–1 as the No. 3 seed. They upset No. 2 seed Alabama 5-3 in the opener, then pounded Columbia 14-1 to reach the regional final. After getting beat 17-6 by host No. 16 Southern Miss in the first final, Miami bounced back the next day with a 5-4 thriller over Southern Miss to clinch the regional title.
