The Arizona Diamondbacks placed second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list, days after news that Marte’s house was burglarized during the MLB All-Star break. The team announced the roster move Friday.

Marte had reportedly requested personal days from the team to deal with the burglary, per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Marte was absent due to a “personal issue” and expects him back in a couple of days, per Nightengale.

Scottsdale police announced Wednesday that Marte’s house had been robbed while Marte and his family were in Atlanta for the All-Star Game. Police, who are still investigating, believe the incident took place Tuesday night. Numerous personal items, including jewelry, were stolen, though police said there were no signs of forced entry.

With Marte taking some time off, the Diamondbacks signed infielder Sergio Alcántara, who has spent several stints with the organization over the years.

Marte, 31, earned his third All-Star nod this season, playing in the 2025 All-Star Game as the National League’s starting second baseman. In two at-bats, he hit a two-run RBI to help the NL to an early lead, before the team eventually pulled off the win.

The high-level burglary is the latest in a series of thefts targeting professional athletes this year. In February, the Justice Department charged seven men who were allegedly part of a South American ring targeting athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow and more. As a result, the NFL and NBA both warned its players to amp up security in the wake of these robberies.

Additionally, a Seattle man was charged last month after burglarizing the homes of several local athletes, including Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, former Seattle Seahawks player Richard Sherman and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell.
