Baseball to Face Charlotte, College of Charleston This Fall – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team will play two scrimmages against outside competition this fall, it was announced Tuesday afternoon (July 22). The Gamecocks will host Charlotte on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. and head to the College of Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 6.

The Gamecocks will host the 49ers, who were 36-22 overall and 18-9 in the American this past season. Robert Woodard, the husband of Carolina head softball coach Ashley Chastain Woodard, will be entering his seventh season as head coach of the 49ers.

Carolina will then head to the Holy City to face the Cougars, who were 37-22 overall and 15-12 in the CAA this past season. Chad Holbrook will be entering his ninth season as head coach of the Cougars.

The NCAA started in 2018 to allow Division I baseball teams to play two fall scrimmages against outside opponents without counting against the spring schedule.

The Charlotte game will be free and open to the public. The time and venue of the College of Charleston game will be announced by the Cougars later in the fall.

The two games are part of Carolina’s fall practice schedule. Full team practice will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
