UCLA Softball Adds Mysha Sataraka as Assistant Coach

Former UCLA softball standout Mysha Sataraka has been hired at her alma mater as an assistant coach, it was announced Thursday by Kelly Inouye-Perez, The Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach.

Sataraka returns to Westwood after spending the last three years as an assistant coach at Penn State where she worked primarily with the Nittany Lions’ offense. Sataraka helped lead the Nittany Lions to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024, three berths into the Big Ten Tournament and back-to-back 30-win seasons in 2023 and 2024.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Mysha back to Westwood,” Inouye-Perez said. “Mysha was one of the most intense competitors I’ve had the pleasure of coaching at UCLA. She has always possessed an unwavering belief in Bruin Magic, and will undoubtedly add more fuel to the fire for our Bruins. She understands the high standards on the field and in the classroom that UCLA softball prides itself on. Mysha has established herself as one of the top offensive minds in the country in a short time as a coach, and I’m excited to reunite with her on our staff. I can’t wait to see the fusion of her expertise with our powerful lineup beginning this fall.”

Penn State put together one of the most powerful offensive performances in program history with the help of Sataraka last season. The Nittany Lions set single-season program records in home runs (74), runs scored (341), batting average (.329) and total bases (770).

Sataraka helped steer Penn State to its third-winningest season in program history in her second year in Happy Valley in 2024, booking a 35-20 overall record and the Nittany Lions’ first NCAA Regional bid since 2011. Penn State defeated UAlbany in an elimination contest in the Bryan-College Station Regional for the program’s 13th NCAA Tournament win in school history.

Sataraka assisted a Penn State staff that saw 11 student-athletes land All-Big Ten Conference accolades over the past three years. Nine of those Nittany Lions were hitters. Sataraka helped turn sophomore infielder Brooke Klosowicz into one of the top offensive threats in the Big Ten in 2025. After hitting for a .239 clip as a freshman, Klosowicz finished eighth in the conference with a .422 batting average, second with 23 doubles and seventh with an .851 slugging percentage in addition to belting a team-high 13 home runs.

In Sataraka’s first year on staff, junior infielder Emily Maddock had a remarkable turnaround with a team-leading .439 batting average…
