BLACKSBURG – The Hokies scored five goals in their home opener over the VCU Rams on Sunday afternoon, led by a five-point night from freshman Hannah Pachan

Four different goal scorers found the back of the net in Tech’s dominant 5-1 win against VCU.

How It Happened
Natalie Mitchell opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Taylor Lewin won the ball from the Rams outside the 18-yard box. A well-placed pass from Lewin allowed Mitchell to get in behind the defense to notch her first of the season.

Five minutes later, Hannah Pachan found her first career goal as she picked up a deflection from a Kylie Marschall long ball, took herself into space, and slotted it neatly into the bottom left corner. Shortly after, Pachan found her second goal of the night on a perfectly placed ball from Ellie Robertson to the backline, which Pachan headed past the goalkeeper.

The first half concluded with a 3-1 scoreline after the Rams notched a goal three minutes after Pachan’s second.

Eliana Salama continued the scoring in the second half for the Hokies, winning the ball off a throw-in, making a driving run to the goal and blasting it past the keeper. Samantha DeGuzman rounded off the scoring with a goal off a Pachan corner kick in the 72nd minute. DeGuzman settled the ball into the box and one-timed it into the bottom corner.
