SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0-1) remain undefeated on the season as they defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats (1-1-1) in a 4-0 victory at Alumni Stadium on Thursday evening.

It was a great offensive night for the Irish with three players netting goals in the win. Sophomore Izzy Engle recorded her second brace of the season, with sophomore Annabelle Chukwu and sophomore Ellie Hodsden each adding one goal apiece in the second half.

Sophomore Grace Restovich led the way with two assists, with senior Laney Matriano and junior Morgan Roy each recorded an assist as well.

The Irish defense suffocated the Bearcat attack, allowing only one shot on goal. Sophomore Sonoma Kasica finished with a clean sheet for the Irish, her eighth clean sheet in her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Who other than Izzy Engle to spark the Irish attack, recording a brace in just the first 14 minutes of play. Laney Matriano connected with Engle on a beautiful pass in the ninth minute as the striker struck it across the box and found the back of the net in the bottom left corner.

Her second goal came minutes later as Restovich found her in the middle of the box. Engle settled the pass and was able to navigate around defenders to get it past the goalkeeper in the bottom right corner of the net.

In the 61st minute, Chukwu scored her first goal of the season off a header courtesy of a cross from Roy to extend the Irish advantage to 3-0.

After it appeared that the Irish were done adding to the scoreboard, one final goal would be scored for the Irish as Hodsden snuck her effort past the keeper with very little angle to work with to make it a 4-0 win for Notre Dame.
