CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Allie Serlenga provided the dramatics for the University of Miami women’s soccer team as her 86th minute goal capped off the comeback in the Hurricanes’ 3-2 victory over Lipscomb Thursday at Cobb Stadium.
Serlenga corralled a clearance from the Bisons defense just outside of the top of the box before blasting her left-footed shot in the lower right corner of the net.
With the win, the Hurricanes move to 4-1-0 on the year and have won three-straight games while Lipscomb falls to 2-2-0.
“It was nice to get another result at home in front of a growing Hurricane soccer fan base,” head coach Ken Masuhr said. “Our team continues to respond in ways that are required to win and I couldn’t be more happy for them. This program is going to be known for a number of things but mostly for how hard we are willing to work. That foundation was laid last season and I am proud the group is continuing to honor those players that came before them. We are going to use the next few days to recover, get healthy and support our volleyball team at home Friday and Saturday and football team at Hard Rock on Sunday. I am looking forward to an incredible atmosphere!!!”
The Bisons took an early 1-0 lead in the contest taking advantage of a Miami own goal in the 11th minute before Brie Severns evened the match in the 17th minute with her third goal in as many games on an assist from Tori Grambo.
Lipscomb regained the lead in the 28th minute following a goal by Annessa Shively.
The Hurricanes put the pressure on the Bisons in the second half and quickly evened the game at 2-2 as Sarah Greiner slotted home her first goal of the season.
Miami outshot the Bisons, 16-4, and tallied six corners to Lipscomb’s two.
The Canes return to action against Princeton on Sept. 4. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
