SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Clemson cross country program completed its first meet of the season on Friday, the women won the 5K, scoring 27 points and the men had the second-best score of 57 points in the 8K.
In the 5K, Silvia Jelelgo placed first with a time of 16:33.9—40 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Other top Tiger placements included Maddie Dinneen (fourth, 17:38.6), Emily Lamontagne (fifth, 17:40.4), Madson Timms (seventh, 17:56.7).
Brenden Gomez finished seventh in the 8K with a time of 24:48.9 for the best Tiger performance. Garrett Brown (ninth, 24:50.8) and Gideon Kiplimo (10th, 25:01.4) rounded out the top 10 with back-to-back finishes.
“Both teams had solid performances today,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds stated. “Silvia was very impressive with the way she dominated the field. The men’s team did a great job with executing their race plan. This race is just the starting point. We have a long season ahead of us. We still have a lot of work to do but today showed a lot of promise of where these teams can build to.”
