CLEMSON, S.C. — Oscar Bredkjaer shot a bogey free 65 on Tuesday to lead Clemson to a team round of 11-under-par 277 and a tie for fourth place standing after two rounds of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Collegiate at Grande Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Clemson is in fifth place, but just five shots behind first place Florida Gulf Coast. The 16-team field will conclude the 54 hole event on Tuesday.
Bredkjaer had an opening round 75, but he closed the first round strong on Monday morning by playing the final six holes at two under par. His 65 in the second round was the first bogey free round by a Clemson golfer since Jonathan Nielsen had a bogey free round at the Goodwin on March 28, 2024. He is a transfer from San Francisco who was honorable mention All-WCC last year.
All 16 teams finished their first round Monday morning. Clemson golfers had to play between five and six holes. Rich Wills finished off a strong opening round of 68, a round that included a four-under par 32 on the front nine. Classmate Colin Salema had an even par 72 in the first round, while Thomas Higgins and had a 73. Clemson stood in seventh place after the first round with an even par score of 288.
Bredkjaer’s 65 was supported in the second round by a 69 from Thomas Higgins.
Freshman Jackson Byrd, who is coming off a back injury, is playing the tournament as an individual and had a second round 69 after an opening round 71. He is the only Tiger to score under par in each round and he stands in a tie for 11th place with Bredkjaer after 36 holes at four-under-par 140.
Lucas Augustsson had an even par 72 in the second round, three shots better than his opening round when he had 15 pars, but had two double bogeys. He had two birdies and two bogeys in the second round to stand at three over par 147 through 36 holes.
Sophomore Colin Salema had an opening round 72, then had a one-under par 71 in the second round. His second round included an eagle three on the par five 560-yard 13th hole. It was just the second eagle of his Clemson career. He is in 23rd place through two rounds at 143. This marks the first time since the opening tournament last year at Inverness that he has had consecutive rounds in the same tournament at par or better.’
Wills followed his opening round 68 with a second round 74 and stands in 20th place in the 90 player field after 36 holes. He was three over for his first 12 holes on Tuesday, but played the last six in one under.
