CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis program is set to begin the fall season this weekend with the 77th Annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. The tournament will take place this Friday, Sept. 12 through Sunday, Sept. 14 at Lagoon Park.

The Blue Gray is a compass-style tournament that consists of two draws (blue and gray) with two Tigers playing in each draw, each in singles and together as a doubles team. The school that wins at least two of the three matches will advance to the right in the compass draw while the losing pair will move to the left.

Edoardo Chérié Lignière and Yannic Nittmann will compete in the blue draw, while Henrik Bladelius and Manuel Plunger are in the gray draw. The blue draw opens the tournament on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by the gray draw at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the draws will flip start times.

The quarterfinals and semifinals of each draw will be played on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The winners of each draw will face off on Sunday in a doubles 10-point tiebreaker to decide Blue Gray champion.

Each school will have their doubles team compete against another school’s doubles team (8-game pro-set, tiebreak at 7 all). Once the doubles match has been completed, the players from that match will then play against the opposing team, from that same match, in singles with the two highest-ranking players going head-to-head. Singles will be played best-of-three sets.
