ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Caden Hunter turned in a dominant start on the mound and Abbrie Covarrubias drove in four runs as the USC baseball team came away with a 7-4 victory over Michigan on Friday night at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor.
Hunter moved to 3-1 after pitching into the seventh inning and giving up just one run, and Covarrubias capped his day with a three-run triple. USC moves to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in Big Ten play with the victory. Michigan falls to 10-7, 2-2.
The Trojans put up four runs on six hits in the third inning, to go up early. USC loaded the bases with no outs after a walk and back-to-back singles, then Dean Carpentier doubled home two runs with a ball down the right field line. Kade Higgins followed with an RBI single and then Higgins scored on an RBI single by Abbrie Covarrubias.
Covarrubias added a three-run triple in the seventh inning to give USC a 7-0 lead. The Trojan second baseman had three hits on the day. Higgins also had a three-hit day for USC.
