No. 10 Hawkeyes Draw at Loyola-Chicago – Iowa Hawkeyes Athletics

CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 10 ranked University of Iowa women’s soccer team tied with Loyola-Chicago, 0-0, on Thursday night at Loyola Soccer Park. The Hawkeyes move to 2-1-1 on the season.

The first half was a defensive battle, ending with a combined three shots on goal between the two teams. Iowa had one shot in the first 30 minutes of the half, before they would fire nine shots in the final 15 minutes of the half.

Graduate student Kelli McGroarty led all players in the first 45 minutes with four shots. McGroarty and senior Shae Doherty each fired one shot on goal for the Hawkeyes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Fernanda Mayrink had one save in the first half for Iowa as the match was tied, 0-0, after 45 minutes. Iowa had three corner kicks to the Ramblers’ zero at the break.

The Hawkeye offense created scoring opportunities in the second half, firing seven shots and putting four shots on goal. They were unable to find the net as Loyola-Chicago goalkeeper Allison Deardorff had five saves.

Mayrink finished with two saves for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa outshot the Ramblers, 17-9 and had six shots on goal to their two. The Hawkeyes had five corner kick opportunities while Loyola-Chicago had a pair. The match would finish a scoreless tie, 0-0.

  • 90 Tracker:Sofia Bush, Miah Schueller, and Millie Greer were the three Hawkeye position players to register 90 minutes.
