GRAND CHUTE – A four-run first inning led the Timber Rattlers past the Sky Carp 7-3 Tuesday night in the first game of a six-game series.
The Sky Carp got the game started on a positive note, with Jake Thompson tripling and Yiddi Cappe following with an RBI double to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
But the Timber Rattlers responded, scoring four times in the first frame against Jake Miller, who struggled for the first time this season. The Rattlers would add single tallies in the second and third innings to increase the advantage to 7-1.
Chase Luttrell doubled home Osiris Johnson in the eighth inning, and a Mark Coley grounder plated Luttrell to make it 7-3, but the Carp could get no closer as they lost their fifth straight game.
Edgar Sanchez continued his stellar work out of the Sky Carp bullpen with a pair of scroreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.13.
GAME NOTABLES
Prior to the game, outfielder Jorge Caballero and catcher Jan Mercado were promoted to AA Pensacola, while catcher Sam Praytor was promoted from Jupiter.
The Sky Carp bullpen saw its string of 15.1 innings of scoreless ball come to a close tonight when Josh White allowed a run in the third innings.
