April 10, 2022 – International League (IL) – Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Bisons wrapped up their season-opening series against the Iowa Cubs with a tight 2-1 victory this afternoon, winning the six-game set four games to two in the process.

Nick Allgeyer made his second start of the season and was lights out once again, throwing five innings of one-run ball while allowing just two hits and punching out seven; he opened the game by retiring the first 10 batters he faced. Allgeyer has now allowed just one run and three hits in 11 innings of work thus far.

A solo home run by Vinny Capra, his first of the year, in the fourth broke the score and put the Bisons out in front, but the I-Cubs responded with a solo shot of their own in the fifth off the bat of Jared Young to tie it up. After I-Cubs starter Cory Abbott was lifted after 3.1 innings, righty Matt Swarmer came out of the ‘pen and threw 3.2 shutout innings in relief to keep things tied. On the Bisons’ side, righty Jeremy Beasley threw two shutout innings, and lefty Andrew Vasquez threw a perfect eighth with a pair of K’s.

The 1-1 tie was broken in the bottom of the eighth when Capra reached on a two-base error by Cubs third baseman Robel García, and came around to score the go-ahead run on a two-out RBI single from Josh Palacios. Matt Gage then came out in the ninth and recorded his first save of the season to secure the win for the Herd.

The Bisons will have their first off day of the year…
