April 22, 2022 – International League (IL) – Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY – After winning the first three matchups in the series, the Buffalo Bisons suffered their first loss of the season to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5-3 on Friday night at Sahlen Field.
The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre dating back to last season.
The RailRiders recorded three straight singles in the first to score an early run off starter Shaun Anderson, but that was the extent of the damage Anderson would allow over five solid innings of work.
L.J. Talley then drove in Logan Warmoth in the second to tie the game at one off southpaw starter JP Sears, before Sears, who began the year in the Yankees bullpen and as such was not stretched out, was lifted from the game in the third.
One of the highlights of the game occurred in the fifth inning, when catcher Gabriel Moreno made a great block in the dirt on a ball that looked as if it would be wild. Oswald Peraza initially thought so from his vantage point at second, and began to break for third only for Moreno to fire a laser to pick him off as he tried to scamper back to the bag.
It was also in the fifth that Vinny Capra crushed a breaking ball over the leftfield wall for a two-run homer in the fifth to put the Bisons out in front 3-1. The lead was short-lived, however, as Anthony Kay had a tough sixth inning that saw the RailRiders score three runs without putting a ball in play. Kay walked in a run with the bases loaded before issuing two wild pitches, each of which allowed another runner to cross the plate.
Scranton would tack on another run in the following frame when Miguel Andújar took Brandon Eisert deep for his third home run of the season and second of the series. Shelby Miller then came on in the bottom of the ninth to try and close it out for Scranton, and retired the Bisons in order to lock up the win.
The Bisons and RailRiders will continue their series tomorrow in a rare weekend…
