Stankiewicz Dominates as Blue Jays Even Series with 2-1 Win

Mighty Mussels Ticket Sales off to Record Start

April 22, 2022 – Florida State League (FSL) – Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

DUNEDIN, Fla. – John Stankiewicz tossed five scoreless innings Friday, but the Dunedin Blue Jays scraped across two runs in the ninth to even the series with a 2-1 win at TD Ballpark.

Stankiewicz fanned nine while allowing just one hit and two walks. Dating back to his outing last weekend, the Fordham product has now spun 13 consecutive scoreless innings. Over that span, he’s allowed just four hits while striking out 21.

Hunter McMahon followed Stankiewicz with three hitless innings in relief, keeping the game scoreless into the ninth.

In a 0-0 game, Noah Cardenas stepped to the plate for Fort Myers (9-4) to lead off the ninth inning. On the first pitch, he socked an opposite-field home run to right to put the Mighty Mussels on top 1-0.

Still leading by that margin in the bottom of the ninth, Fort Myers reliever Logan Campbell (0-1) walked the bases loaded with one out. Campbell then struck out Rainer Nunez to bring the Blue Jays (5-8) down to their final out. After Campbell got ahead 0-2 on Gabriel Martinez, he fired a fastball inside that jammed Martinez. Martinez fisted a soft liner down the first base line at 49 mph that just barely stayed fair and plated both runs to win the game for Dunedin.

Dunedin’s victory evens the series 2-2 going into Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. matchup. RHP David Festa is set to start for Fort Myers, while RHP Michael Dominguez goes for Dunedin. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
