Jarrett, Noles Ready for 2023 Opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State baseball program returns to the field for 2023 Opening Day on Friday, February 17 at 5 p.m. against James Madison. The two teams will play on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 p.m. to complete the series. This is a rematch of last year’s opening series, where FSU swept James Madison.

Saturday’s game will air nationally on ACC Network, while Friday and Sunday’s games will stream on ACC Network Extra. Fans in Tallahassee can listen on WFLA 100.7 FM or around the country through Tunein or the FSU Gameday app.

Junior Carson Montgomery will start on the mound for the Seminoles on Friday. Montgomery pitched over the summer for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, helping the Stars & Stripes win a bronze medal in the Netherlands and not allowing a single run in either of his appearances in Holland.

Freshman Jamie Arnold earned the Sunday starting position for the Noles and will make his first career start this weekend. During his senior year of high school, Arnold posted a 2.02 ERA and 91 strikeouts over 66 innings. Arnold was also ranked the No. 4 left-handed pitcher in Florida by Perfect Game.

Link Jarrett begins his first season as head coach at Florida State with a 301-198 record overall after 10 years of head coaching experience with three NCAA Tournament appearances. Under their new head coach, the Seminoles are looking to make the adjustments necessary for another run to the College World Series.

Jarrett will have plenty of young talent to work with in his first season with 17 true freshman joining FSU’s roster. The class was second-ranked in the ACC and No. 7 in D1Baseball’s Top 25 Impact Freshman Classes countdown.

At the plate, James Tibbs returns after a sold 2022 season where he recorded 37 hits and a .300 average, tied for second on the team. Tibbs notched 10 home runs on top of 37 total runs during last season.
