MIAMI – The NC State baseball team concluded its first ACC road trip of 2023 with a wire-to-wire 14-4 victory at Miami, marking career victory No. 1,200 for head coach Elliott Avent.

Avent, the 27th-year skipper at NC State, also captured NC State victory No. 976 in Sunday’s 14-4 victory over the Hurricanes. Avent recorded 224 victories in eight seasons at New Mexico State, who recently inducted Avent into its Hall of Fame in February.

NC State (14-2, 1-2 ACC) scored in seven innings in Sunday’s ACC triumph, recording multiple runs five times. The Wolfpack set a new season-high with six doubles and slugged three home runs, finishing the afternoon with nine extra-base hits.

The Pack struck first in the top of the first behind a two-run homer from Trevor Candelaria. LuJames Groover III kept the Wolfpack at-bat alive with a two-out single to left field, bringing Candelaria to the plate with a runner on first with two down. Candelaria then crushed the first pitch of his at-bat to center field to give NC State an early 2-0 lead.

NC State doubled its lead in the top of the second when Parker Nolan doubled down the left-field line, scoring Carter Trice and Jacob Cozart to give the Pack a 4-0 lead. Nolan then sprinted home from third base on a passed ball, extending NC State’s early advantage to 5-0.
