The Aggies secure series win after beating the Tigers in game two.

Shriners Children’s College Classic Tournament Preview: Texas A&M

Following a poor offensive performance against UTSA a few days ago, the Aggies made sure to put that at the back of everyone’s recent memory. Texas A&M (22-13, 7-7 SEC) outscored Missouri (21-13, 4-10 SEC) 26 to 6 with a baker’s dozen in each game and produced nine-run innings winning another SEC series.

Game one SUmmary:

Final Score: Aggies 13, Roadrunners 5 – W: Sdao, Shane (1-1); L: Lunceford, Logan (3-2)

Missouri took an early lead, but Trevor Werner hit a solo home run to tie the game in the top of the third. Another two put the Tigers up 3-1 before the chair was kicked from under them in the third.

Four straight walks of Hank Bard, Hunter Hass, Jake Moss, and Austin Bost cut the lead by one, then another walk of Werner gave them an additional run tying the game 3-3. A pair of singles by Jace LaViolette and Ryan Targac put three more scores followed by LaViolette scoring on a throwing error pushing the Aggies up 3-7. Still not done, Jordan Thompson hit a two-run homer, and the scoring was closed out with a Moss single that allowed Bard to score concluding a nine-run inning for a 3-10 lead going into the fourth.

The Tigers cut the lead in half in the fifth, but the Aggies would also add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a score. Then a final in the seventh closed out the scoring for both teams with a final of 13-5 after game one.

Game two SUmmary:

Final Score: Aggies 13, Roadrunners 1 – W: Aschenbeck, Evan (5-0); L: Maltrud, Rorik (1-1)

With only one run off a Trevor Warner sac fly in the third inning, it looked like this was going to be a low-scoring affair heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Aggies put that notion to bed rocking the Tigers with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth. It started with a Hark Bard double followed by a Hunter Haas single, but an error by the right fielder allowed Bard to score. Then Brett Minnich got into the action with a three-run homer extending the lead to 5-0 with only one out. Bost hit a single and a red-hot LaViolette went yard to bring them both home adding two more runs. The final two runs came on another throwing error this time by the third baseman bringing both Haas and Bard home for a 10-0 lead.

Missouri’s lone run came in the top of the sixth inning, but there was very little to celebrate as Travis Chestnut got his first home run of the season…
