El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
The El Paso Chihuahuas and San Diego Padres have announced the 2024 Triple-A Opening Day roster. It includes 13 returning players and 23 players with MLB experience. The Chihuahuas open the 2024 season tonight at 6:35 p.m. on the road against Albuquerque, the Colorado Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate.
The players are listed alphabetically below:
Lake Bachar, Pitcher: Pitched for Double-A San Antonio last season… Appeared in 42 games and allowed more than one earned run only three times… Was drafted by San Diego in the fifth round of the 2016 Amateur Draft.
Matthew Batten, Infielder: Played for both San Diego and El Paso last season… Was drafted by San Diego in the 32nd round of the 2017 Amateur Draft… Will become the first player in Chihuahuas history to appear for the team in six different seasons.
Daniel Camarena, Pitcher: Signed by San Diego as a minor league free agent in 2020… Pitched for Double-A San Antonio last season… Originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 20th round of the 2011 Amateur Draft… Has also pitched in the Minnesota and San Francisco organizations… Went to high school in San Diego at Cathedral Catholic.
Ryan Carpenter, Pitcher: Signed by San Diego as a minor league free agent in 2023… Most recently pitched for the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO in 2022… Originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the seventh round of the 2011 Amateur Draft out of Gonzaga.
Austin Davis, Pitcher: Signed by San Diego as a minor league free agent in 2024… Pitched for Triple-A Sugar Land last season… Originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 12th round of the 2014 Amateur Draft out of Cal State Bakersfield… He’s the first player from that school to reach the majors.
Clay Dungan, Infielder: Drafted in the Rule 5 Draft by San Diego from Kansas City in 2023… Played for Triple-A Omaha last season… Originally drafted by Kansas City in the ninth round of the 2019 Amateur Draft out of Indiana State.
Jeremiah Estrada, Pitcher: Claimed off waivers by San Diego from the Chicago Cubs in 2023… Pitched for Chicago and Triple-A Iowa last season… Originally drafted by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2017 Amateur Draft out of Palm Desert H.S. in California.
Matt Festa, Pitcher: Signed by San Diego as a minor league free agent in 2024… Pitched for both Seattle and Triple-A Tacoma last season… Originally drafted by Seattle in the seventh round of the 2016 Amateur Draft out of…
