The LSU softball team responded nicely to another frustrating series loss to Auburn last weekend on Tuesday night.
Facing No. 19 UL-Lafayette, which knocked it out of the Baton Rouge Regional the last time these two teams played, the Tigers earned a 4-2 midweek win over a ranked opponent as they pulled away after falling behind early.
Sydney Berzon pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits but just two runs as she struck out a trio of batters.
The Ragin’ Cajuns were the first to strike with a two-run bomb in the first inning, but LSU would answer in the bottom of the frame as Taylor Pleasants hit a two-out RBI single to cut the deficit in half.
In the second, a fielder’s choice allowed Maci Bergeron to score the tying run from third after a pair of hits to lead off the bottom of the inning. In the fourth, Ciara Briggs gave the Tigers another two-out RBI hit, this time a double that plated a pair of runs and handed LSU a 4-2 lead.
ULL went on to strand three baserunners in the final three innings, and Berzon worked her way out of the seventh after allowing a one-out base hit. Now, the Tigers prepare for a big-time road series against No. 4 Tennessee, which begins on Friday.
